18 Jan 20081st post of 2008. I know you missed me. SOOOO much has happened already this year. I’ll fill you in on a few things:
1. Christmas/New Year’s was great, though Brooke got sick a few times so that was quite the experience for daddy…we were able to get some help from our doc in LA and stayed with my folks while Brooke got better so that was great.
2. We painted the office – finally – so we didn’t have glaring white walls all around us. We figured that since we were spending so much time here we should spruce it up a bit.
3. I made the Big Switch. I’m back to the Mac. Got a MacBook Pro right before Christmas and it has defninitely scratched every nerd itch I have just tinkering around with it. So far, very happy I made the switch.
4. Little Alexa is 2.5 months old now and has already kept us very busy! We found out right after she was born that she’s hypothyroid so we have been giving her some medicine every day that helps to stabilize. They’re not sure if it’s something she’ll grow out of but it’s also very manageable so we’re grateful for that. We just found out yesterday that both her hips are a little weak, one was actually dislocated and the other was just kind of loose. She is not in a little harness thing for the next 3-4 months, maybe 6, so that should be fun! I was actually glad it was just this little pink velcro thing…I was thinking it was going to be like the kid had in Forest Gump…heh. I’ll post a pic soon.
5. I’m headed to Belarus the 17th of Feb as that’s where our developers are at for our web stuff so that should be a fun trip…found out my passport had expired so just got that all renewed and I’m ready to roll.
6. Work has been insane! We in the process of moving all our sites to a new system and it’s just been crazy all the while trying to keep new business coming in. Hopefully by the end of March it should be all back to normal.
7. We’re still on quite the church journey, trying to figure out what that all means to us, but that has been a rather involved part of the past few weeks as well. I’m sure I’ll post more about it as I hopefully start to figure out more. Maybe I’ll start a "journey" section…could be fun.
Well…enough for now…gotta get back to work! Brooke and I are going away tomorrow for our anniversary – 7 years! Hard to believe.
Much luv.

25 Dec 2007I love this time of year. We’ve been having a great time this Christmas. Saturday the Williams came down and I cooked – that’s right, I cooked – turkey, veggies, stuffing, salad, bread, it was good stuff. We then went and checked out the lights at Candy Cane Lane as well as Christmas Card Lane.
Christmas Eve we jammed up to Disneyland and met the folks and Pantojas and had a great time. The park was pretty crowded, but the kiddies had a great time. Even Alexa did great!
I’m also enjoying a little Christmas time of my own playing on my new Macbook Pro…thanks RightTurn.
And to all a good night.

17 Nov 2007So little Alexa completed her first week, working on day 10, but decided she wanted to be unique. Thursday we got a call that her thyroid levels were high and they wanted us to get another blood test. Friday we went to Children’s Hospital and got another test which confirmed what the doctors thought that she has a congenital hypo-thyroid condition. Definitely sounds bad, but in actuality it’s totally manageable and something she has a shot at growing out of. We have to give her medication every day to try and keep things regulated, but it was good to finally get things figured out and helped to put our minds at ease. She’s an amazing baby, sleeping all the time, eating well, only really cries when she’s hungry – a real blessing.

Today was amazing. There’s really no other explaination when you see a human being enter into life. Let alone the fact that it’s my new daughter, it was just unreal. To watch Brooke push through so much pain, endure so much – it was just intense. But then to watch this little amazing bundle of joy enter into the world was so surreal. I have felt all along that it was a girl and so I was very excited when I saw her beautiful face appear. There’s something about having girls that I just love so I’m so very happy to see how it all turned out.
It was so special to have so many in the room to experience the occasion – my mom and sister, Brooke’s mom and sister, Deb Eskew, MJ Saltz and our dula Annie (who was AMAZING – highly recommend). Not sure all the nurses appreciated so many in there, but they let us do it so that was great.
Brooke and baby should be coming home Friday night. Thanks for all the prayers and warm wishes! Enjoy some pictures from the event.

7 Nov 2007About an 2 hours after little Alexa was born her big sisters came by with flowers and cards for mom and presents for Alexa. Alexa had a present for them as well – their own beta fish! It was a very precious moment, enjoy.

So the girls had fun last night all dressed up as Tinkerbell (Emma) and Belle (Kylah)…Frank and Dre came over and we set up their fire pit on the driveway so Brooke & Dre could relax and hand out candy. The girls had a blast trick-or-treating with some of our neighbors. Good times had by all.

25 Oct 2007It’s good to be home. It was great to see the fam in LA, but we’re glad to be back in the SD. It was crazy driving down from LA as the area by Camp Pendleton is all burnt…I know that’s just the beginning of crazy scenes around the county. We were excited to hear that our hospital that we’re to deliver this baby at is now back open and our doctor is back online as well so that’s good news! Went to the doc today and Brooke’s 2 cm so the process is starting…she is really looking forward to the arrival of this baby!

23 Oct 2007So yeah, the whole city is on fire. So it seems. We actually got out of town yesterday morning before our town (or a large part of it) was evacuated and came north to my folks. The main issue was that Brooke’s about 2 weeks away from giving birth so really any time now we can expect the little one’s arrival and yet our hospital she was to give birth at was evacuated. That doesn’t help. So we went to Irvine to the William’s but there’s a fire just east of them so that was no help so kept moving north to Westwood and so far so good. The kids were toast last night – we dragged them all over the place – but they were happy to see their cousins. We absolutely cannot complain as our house is not in any real danger of the fires and we have a place to go. There are so many at Qualcomm Stadium and shelters and now without homes…it’s a very odd thing to live through and we’re very grateful for God keeping us safe so far.
We’re praying we can get back to SD soon (when the air’s better) and that the hospital will open up again so we can deliver in the comfort of our own home/town/doctor/etc. so feel free to add that to your list, should you be the praying sort!

8 Oct 2007Man…this weekend was great. Here’s the play-by-play:
Friday my homies Mike & Kristen Lamb came in to town from Boston en-route to the ILC in LA. We went out to dinner Friday night which was fun (thanks for watching the kiddies Barrys ). Saturday we just chilled in the morning and then my folks, Jen & Benoni and their kiddies all came down. We had lunch, went to the park, the kids went swimming…you still awake for all this? heh. Saturday night we had some din din then went and saw a very good movie called The Kingdom . The whole audience left the theater in silence. Interesting vibe to say the least.
I came home from the movie to find out that Stanford had pulled off the unthinkable ! So very excited about that. Then I saw the score of the UCLA vs. Notre Dame game. The ups and downs of Pac-10 emotions…
Sunday was great. Had church, had lunch, took a crankin’ nap and then got ready for the big partay. We had 15 of us around a poker table for about 4 hours of a very lively poker game with some Sunday night football on the TV and food that mama Metten so generously provided. Very good times. Thanks to all for making the entrance to 31 such a blast!
